Do you have a hard to shop for person in your life? Did you draw a guy in the office gift pool, and you have no idea what to get him? How about a first edition copy of The Texas Gun Club, Victory Road or For God and Country?
A reader of historical fiction?
The Texas Gun Club is a historical fiction series that will follow Perkin and Sam's journey to the distant shores of Europe. It is action oriented and similar in many respects to series written by authors such as Patrick O'Brian (my favorite), C.S. Forester, George MacDonald Fraser, Bernard Cornwell, W.E.B. Griffin, and Michael and Jeff Shaara. Both TTGC and VR are winners of the Military Writers Society of America Gold Medal Award (2010 and 2011, respectively).
A serving warrior or a veteran?
The Gun Club series is written by a veteran, and has humorous insights into military life that vets can appreciate. I'm proud to say that within a week of its publication, The Texas Gun Club had been shipped to soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and at sea. The Texas Gun Club was deliberately sized to fit perfectly into the leg pocket of ACUs, BDUs, and utilities.
A National Guardsman?
Many books have been written about World War Two. Very few of them tell the story of the citizen-soldiers of the National Guard. More Guardsmen have been deployed since 9/11 than at any time since WWII -- a different time, but the stories transcend generations.
A Texas History Buff?
Did you know Shiner Bock was originally brewed as a Lenten beer? Or that the Karankawa Indians of south Texas were reputed to be cannibals? Or that Texans were the first American soldiers to land on the mainland of Europe in 1943?
A teen or young adult?
The Hornblower books by C.S. Forester that I read as a young teen were some of the most influential books of my life: they sparked a desire for adventure, travel and service. Many of the characters in The Texas Gun Club are in their teens or early twenties and will appeal to young readers. While there are no graphic scenes in the Gun Club novels, there are adult themes and language in the book.
